Ditching the Diet Books

Ditching the Books

If you’re wise, exercise all the fat off – take it off , off of here off of there.

Annie Lennox – Keep young and beautiful

I’m ditching all my diet books.  Why?  Because they depress me.  They mock me from my bookshelf, throwing my lack of success with the bulge in my face. Also, they don’t tell me anything I don’t already know.

Money Wasted!

It makes me mad that I’ve contributed HUGE amounts of dollars, helping others get rich, just so I can read their version of how to lose weight.  Some of the ideas are down-right hair brained!  Some are completely impractical unless your single, wealthy, and have no job except to tend to your own needs.  Obviously that ain’t most of us.

Some are clearly for southern climes.  Here in the damp white north, lettuce and tomatoes are not in season all year round.  Also eating tomatoes in winter physically makes me sick.  They’re so acidy that it upsets my tum.

And the Diets were……

So what have I tried over the years?  Well, there was…..

  • the food combining diet
  • the blood type diet
  • the South Beach diet
  • the eat to live diet
  • the Fit for Life diet
  • the Biggest Loser diet
  • the grapefruit diet
  • the cabbage soup diet
  • the only diet there is diet
  • the Budwig diet
  • the liquid diet
  • the egg and grapefruit diet
  • the drinker’s diet (yes there actually is one)
  • the heart patient’s diet
  • the fruit only diet
  • the 3 day diet
  • the 5 day diet
  • the fasting diet
  • the juice diet
  • the alkaline diet

Well, you get the picture.

None of them Work

If you’re truthful to yourself, you probably will admit that despite all the diet books you’ve read, deep down inside you know what really works.

Find What Works for You

I’m discovering that the diet I grew up with, the Nordic style diet, is really the best for me.  It’s not rocket science, although people are making money writing books about it.  It’s simply eat local, eat seasonal, eat whole grains, fruit and veg, and don’t over eat.  It’s getting your body out and moving a little every day.

Easy way to lose Weight

So, now I have more room on the shelf.  That alone helped me lose 5 pounds of paper and some weight off my conscience.  Granted it ain’t body weight, but it’s a start, eh?
